Apple Watch Series 10: New design and larger display

Ten years ago, Apple introduced its first smartwatch. To mark its 10th anniversary, the Apple Watch has a larger display and a refreshed design.

At 9.7 millimeters, the Apple Watch Series 10 is a full millimeter thinner than its predecessor. In terms of height and width, however, the case is one millimeter thicker. The display now has a diagonal of 42 or 46 millimeters. This means it offers more display space, so that text can be displayed larger or more text can be displayed at once.

The display also uses an OLED with a wider viewing angle, so that a display that is up to 40 percent brighter is possible even when viewed from the side. The always-on display is supposed to update more often than before, so that on some watch faces you can even see a ticking second hand without raising your wrist.

Advanced health features

With the new Apple Watch Series 10, Apple is also introducing a new health feature: sleep apnea notifications. By analyzing breathing patterns during sleep, the watch should be able to provide indications of sleep apnea, a potentially serious condition that causes repeated pauses in breathing. The data can be viewed in the Health app and exported as a PDF if required. Apple announced that this feature will soon receive approval from health authorities such as the FDA. It is also planned to be introduced in Germany.

Faster charging and new water sensors

The new Apple Watch Series 10 is said to charge significantly faster than its predecessors. In just 15 minutes of charging time, up to eight hours of use or sleep tracking should be possible. The battery life is on par with its predecessor at 18 hours.

In addition, the watch has new sensors that can measure water depth up to six meters and water temperature. A new tide app also makes it possible to monitor tide and water level changes for coastal areas worldwide.

Aluminium and titanium models in new colours

The Apple Watch Series 10 is available in a variety of aluminum and titanium finishes, including the new Jet Black color in polished aluminum and titanium in natural, gold and slate finishes. These materials are said to be up to 20 percent lighter than previous models.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 in Titanium Black

The Apple Watch Ultra did not receive a new version this year, but at least it did get a new color. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is now also available with a black titanium case. There are also new straps. The Tide app and sleep apnea detection are also coming to the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Prices and availability

All new Apple Watch models can be pre-ordered now and will be available from September 20th. The Apple Watch Series 10 is available with an aluminum case in diamond black, rose gold and silver, and with a solid case in slate, gold and natural.
