Instead of introducing an Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple has announced the new color variant “Satin Black” for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. In addition, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, like the Apple Watch 10 and the Apple Watch 9, will receive sleep apnea detection as a software update.

What's new with watchOS 11

This is the first time that Apple has introduced a new color for the Apple Watch Ultra series since its launch. The material, titanium, has not changed with the new color. The case size of 49 mm and the sapphire glass to protect the display have also remained unchanged in the new model. In addition to the new sleep apnea detection function, for which the smartwatch will use the accelerometer and its measurements over time, the Ultra 2 will also receive the update to Apple watchOS 11 this fall, which includes an update for the Smart Stacks, the widgets that you call up by turning the digital crown and which now include live activities and health metrics over time.

Hardware unchanged this year

With the Apple Watch Ultra 2 last year, Apple made the OLED display brighter again and increased performance with the S9 SiP to be able to process Siri directly on the smartwatch. Compared to the Apple Watch 10, it still offers significantly longer battery life. Apple still states a battery life of 18 hours for the Watch 10, while 36 hours are specified for the Ultra 2.

Pre-sale today, delivery from 20 September

The new Apple Watch Ultra 2 can be pre-ordered starting today and will be delivered and sold starting September 20th. In the US, it costs 799 US dollars excluding taxes. The price has therefore not changed compared to last year, which suggests that it will also remain unchanged in Germany at 899 euros.
