Top police officer visits remote areas of Kathua to check security

Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]September 9 (ANI): Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) district, Shiv Kumar Sharma visited various far-flung places of Kathua district to review the security arrangements for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, an official statement released on Monday said.

During his visit to Basantpur, Satwain, Mahanpur, Basohli, Sheetal Nagar/Bhoond and Bani on September 8, the DIG JSK officer also convened a meeting with the civil administration and paramilitary forces, briefed them on the sensitivity of the duties they were to perform and assured them of full cooperation of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the release added.

DIG JSK Range also spoke to Brigade Commander Bani and discussed various issues related to joint anti-terrorist operations, cordons and searches in case of emergency. Brigade Commander Bani assured him of better coordination and elimination of terrorists who have infiltrated into our homeland through any means, the statement added.

DIG JSK Range also visited Bhoond police station and directed the police station concerned to redress complaints from the public within time, paying special attention to women complainants, it said.

Complaints of women should be handled by women staff and special attention should also be given to NDPS/road accidents/land disputes etc. He also spoke to VDG members, reviewed their training and briefed them on the sensitivity of their duties. He issued necessary instructions and guidelines to the territorial officers to ensure foolproof security arrangements during the election campaign and directed them to remain extra vigilant in this regard, it said.

The elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25 and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8. (ANI)
