This is the wild moment an Italian coach received one of the most bizarre red cards in football history after storming onto the pitch and tackling a player in an attempt to block an attack.

Subbiano coach Alessio Guidotti found himself in trouble after a bout of madness during his team's sixth division match against Pontassieve this weekend.

As a Pontassieve striker tried to rush towards the goal, the coach came out of his team bench, hit him and then tried to apologize.

The unbelievable footage went viral on social media and is made even more unbelievable by Guidotti's attempt to excuse his behaviour before being sent off.

Dressed in a bright orange jersey, the tactician raised his arms in the air, seemingly in a desperate attempt to protest against the expulsion he was about to receive.

Unsurprisingly, several Pontassieve players angrily surrounded him, forcing the linesman to step aside and disperse the group before tensions boiled over.

After the match, Pontassieve coach Marco Guidi condemned Guidotti’s decision.

“I feel sorry especially for Subbiano because it is a famous and respected club,” he told local media.

“Their coach's attitude tainted them and affected the outcome of the game because we attacked two against one.”

Subbiano also published his own statement on the incident and did not hold back from sharply criticizing Guidotti's loss of control.

“The club deeply regrets what happened during Pontassieve-Subbiano,” they said.

“Certain incidents should never happen and we are certainly the first to be upset about them.”

“On Sundays we are all football fans who come to the games full of passion.

“Gaining an advantage in this way is unfair and must be punished, as has already happened in some cases.”

“At the same time, however, we are convinced that this was not a violent incident and we are even more convinced that our coach Guidotti is the first to regret his actions.”

“There is not much to add to that. We hope the tone will be toned down, as it was just as unpleasant as the incident itself.”
