Weather in Calgary: Another hot day before temperatures drop

A dozen Alberta towns set new high temperature records on Sunday, including Edmonton, Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Sundre.

Dozens of others saw temperatures of at least 30°C, which is unusually warm for this time of year.

In Calgary, temperatures were around 30°C for most days of the weekend and will remain well above average on Monday.

However, towards the end of the day, a low pressure system in northern Alberta will also reach central and southern Alberta and significantly change conditions.

Late Monday afternoon, strong winds, rain and a drop in temperature will occur in the northern and central parts of the provinces before reaching the south.

In Calgary, the daily maximum temperature is expected to drop by 10 degrees from Monday to Tuesday and by 15 degrees from Monday to Thursday.

Rain is expected to be fairly persistent throughout most of the week, with the heaviest amounts expected on Thursday. Thursday will also be the coolest day of the next seven days.
