20-year-old man accused of stabbing mother to death at Notting Hill Carnival in front of her three-year-old daughter appears in court

A suspected knifeman accused of stabbing a mother to death in front of her three-year-old daughter at the Notting Hill Carnival appeared in court today charged with murder.

Shakiel Thibou, 20, is accused of murdering 32-year-old Cher Maximen on “Family Day” at Carnival on August 25.

He appeared today at the Old Bailey together with his brothers Sheldon (24) and Shaeim (21).

Shakiel is accused of murder, knife possession and violent disorder.

His two older siblings are accused of violent disturbances and physical assault on a paramedic.

Thibou is said to have killed Ms Maximen when he tried to attack another man with a machete.

Prosecutor Alistair Richardson said: “On 25 August this year, Cher Maximen attended the Notting Hill Carnival with a group of friends and her three-year-old daughter.”

He added that after the alleged attack, she “suffered serious injuries, went into cardiac arrest and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where she underwent two major surgeries.”

“These injuries proved insurmountable and on August 31 she died.”

Sheldon Thibou is also accused of possession of a device used to stun people, namely an electric shock device.

Thibou appeared in court via video link from HMP Belmarsh, while his brother appeared via link from HMP Wandsworth.

Judge Mark Lucraft, KC, the Recorder of London, ordered his detention pending a plea bargain and trial preparation hearing on November 28.

The provisional four-week hearing date was set for February 24.
