After Luke Mockridge's Sat.1 exit due to Paralympics statements: Another slap in the face for comedian

After Sat.1 confirmed that it would not broadcast a new show with Luke Mockridge on TV for the time being, the next setback followed: a first organizer canceled an appearance by the comedian.

Update from September 9th: On the same day that Sat.1 publicly announced that it would not broadcast Luke Mockridge's new show “What's in the Box?” on TV because of his controversial Paralympics statements, the comedian was dealt another setback. His “Nightwash” appearance on September 8 in Paderborn was cancelled.

Luke Mockridge was actually supposed to perform some gags on the stage of the Neuhausen Castle and Auenpark on Sunday evening – but nothing came of it. Christian Stork, managing director of the Castle Park and Lippesee Society, confirmed his last-minute cancellation of the show to “Westfalen-Blatt” on the day of the event.

First report from September 8th: On September 7, a video clip of a podcast visit by Luke Mockridge (35) made the rounds, causing a scandal: The comedian made questionable comments about the Paralympics and received a lot of criticism from the public. Sat.1, the 35-year-old's home channel, is now temporarily suspending its show “What's in the Box?”, which was supposed to start on TV on September 12.

“Doesn’t fit our values”: Early TV exit for Luke Mockridge’s new Sat.1 show

Luke Mockridge shocked the internet with statements like “There are people without legs and arms, you throw them into a pool – and whoever drowns last wins.” Now his actions, which he revealed in the podcast “Die Deutschen” with the presenters Nizar and Shayan, have consequences.

After critics had already aggressively claimed that Sat.1 should comment on Luke Mockridge and his misconduct, broadcaster Christoph Körfer confronted bild.de has now spoken out. “The statements about disabled people and para-athletes, which many people are rightly outraged about, do not fit with our values,” said the press officer of ProSieben, which also owns the broadcaster Sat.1. He also confirmed this to sueddeutsche.de.

Despite Luke Mockridge’s apology: Sat.1 wants to wait with show broadcast

Christoph Körfer also reports that the comedian's new show “What's in the Box?” will not start as planned on September 12th. And this despite the fact that Luke Mockridge apologized for his statements in the video on the same day – but in the same breath published an excerpt from his tour, showing that he had already made the questionable statements during his live performances. Nevertheless, it was a genuine apology for the Munich broadcaster. “He therefore publicly and credibly apologized for his inappropriate words – and accepted the invitation from the German Disabled Sports Association,” commented the press officer on Mockridge's subsequent words to the podcast.

It is unclear whether the show, which has already been filmed, will make it to television at some point. Perhaps Sat.1 will broadcast the show if “Luke Mockridge finds a way to follow up his apology with action.” The first episode of “Who's in the Box?” is online for the first time on their streaming platform Joyn (as of September 8). Plus members were given the opportunity to stream the show in advance a few days ago.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that the comedian has lost out because of his particular style of humor: In the past, Luke Mockridge has already cracked a nasty joke about women because his brother was rejected by a driving instructor because of him.
