At least six policemen and seven civilians were injured when a police vehicle was the target of a remote-controlled bomb attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's (KP) South Waziristan on Monday. Geo News was reported, citing a hospital official.

Meanwhile, police confirmed that the bomb exploded on Kir Kot Road in Wana Rustam Bazar.

Police officials added that they arrived at the scene immediately after the explosion was reported, while rescue teams arrived at the scene to take the injured to Wana District Hospital.

One of the seriously injured victims of the attack was brought to Dera Ismail Khan.

Meanwhile, chief medical officer Dr. Hamad Mahmood said Geo News Among the injured who were taken to hospital were both civilians and police officers.

On the other hand, police sources mentioned the start of the anti-polio campaign in the region today.

At least two police vehicles were heading towards Krikot Road to ensure the safety of the polio workers at the site, when one of the vehicles was attacked.

The sources added that the area had been cordoned off and an investigation into the tragic incident had begun.

District Health Officer Dr. Inayat Rahman said Geo News that the polio campaign was launched today across the district and at least 70,000 children above the age of five will be vaccinated.

According to DHO, tight security arrangements have been made across the district and 480 policemen have been deployed to ensure the security of 297 polio teams.

It is worth noting that both security personnel and polio workers in Pakistan continue to face serious risk of attacks, particularly in the religiously conservative northwestern region.

In many conflict-affected regions, security concerns pose a serious threat to polio teams. Dozens of polio workers have been attacked over the past decade, creating an atmosphere of fear among those entrusted with protecting the country's children.

In July this year, two police officers fighting polio were injured in separate attacks in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan districts.
