Congress names more candidates for Haryana today, tension over 3 seats: Sources

The Congress is expected to release its third list of candidates for the Haryana assembly elections today, sources said, as tension mounts over the finalisation of a Seat-sharing agreement with the Aam Aadmi Party The organization is responsible for the development of health care services. It is responsible for the development of health care services.

According to sources, the Congress sub-committee assessing the contested seats in Haryana's 90 constituencies has finalised a list of 49 candidates and sent it to the party leadership. 41 names have already been announced.

According to sources, all Congress MPs from Haryana have expressed their desire to contest the assembly elections. Six MPs are in the Lok Sabha and Randeep Singh Surjewala is in the Rajya Sabha.

The party is facing a dilemma over the desires of sitting MPs hoping for a chance in state politics. Many believe that the Congress is likely to come to power in Haryana and feel that it would be more beneficial to move to state politics than to remain in Parliament for the next five years, sources said.

The subcommittee has identified candidates for 49 seats, but left the decision on three key constituencies to the party leadership.

The leadership decision is pending in the constituencies where prominent politicians have expressed their desire to run:

  • Uklana: This is Kumari Selja's home.
  • Kaithal: Randeep Surjewala has expressed his desire to contest here. However, if Surjewala gives up his Rajya Sabha seat, it could reduce the number of Congress MPs in the Upper House to a precarious level and possibly jeopardise Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's status as the Leader of the Opposition. The leadership is reportedly considering this factor as well as the possibility of fielding his son instead.
  • Rohtak: Lok Sabha MP Deepender Hooda has also expressed interest to contest from here, while his father Bhupinder Hooda is already contesting from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi.

It seems that the top politicians do not want to be left out of the campaign and want to secure a lead in the parliamentary elections. However, the leadership must decide whether to let its big names run or concentrate on the election campaign.

The chairman of the subcommittee, Ajay Maken, has presented the list to the top leadership, which will now decide whether and which seats should be reserved for allies.
