UP DGP denies allegations of caste-related encounters

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]September 9 (ANI): After the opposition Samajwadi Party and the Congress questioned the Uttar Pradesh Police and accused them of violating the law during the encounter with Mahesh Yadav in Sultanpur, the Uttar Pradesh Police responded that the police were doing their job impartially.

Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said, “The police do not do anything like this and if any shots are fired, our officials have made all this allegations. I deny all this. The police are being completely impartial.” Earlier, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Monday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party over the recent encounter with Mangesh Yadav in Sultanpur and warned people to be “watchful for the drama” between BJP and SP, saying there were “no fake encounters” during the BSP's rule in Uttar Pradesh.

“After the Sultanpur district incident in Uttar Pradesh, BJP and SP are blaming each other for law and order and doing politics in the name of crime, criminals and caste, while in this case they are both chor chor mausera bhai'. That is, like BJP, the law and order situation was many times worse under the SP government. People have not forgotten that the SP goons and mafia used to rob and beat up Dalits, other underprivileged sections, the poor and businessmen in broad daylight,” Mayawati wrote on X.

She further said that the law was in force only under the rule of the BSP and warned the people to beware of the rule of law drama of the BJP and SP.

“In Uttar Pradesh, on the other hand, the rule of law was actually there only under the rule of the BSP. Justice was given to the people without any discrimination on the basis of caste or religion. There were no fake clashes etc. Hence, everyone should be wary of the BJP-SP rule of law drama,” she added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday attacked SP leader Akhilesh Yadav and said the SP was saddened over the death of a bandit in an encounter.

“You see, when a mafia member or a bandit is killed in an encounter with the police, it is as if the police have touched a sensitive nerve and they start shouting. Tell me, if a bandit killed in an encounter could have continued his crimes… could the Samajwadi Party have brought back those lives?” CM Yogi said.

“During the SP government, the police ran while the gangsters chased them. Today, the roles are reversed. The mafia runs, the police chase them,” he added.

Earlier, opposition leader and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that in the states ruled by the BJP, “laws and the constitution” were being disregarded by those responsible for their implementation.

“The clash with Mangesh Yadav in Sultanpur has once again proved that the BJP does not believe in the 'rule of law'. Professional forces like the STF are being run like 'criminal gangs' under the BJP government, the Central government's silence on this is its clear approval of this 'thoko politics'. Dozens of clashes with the STF in Uttar Pradesh are up for debate. Has any action been taken against any of these officials till date? Finally, one wonders who is saving them and why. Tackling the Constitution in front of cameras is just a pretext while your own governments are openly tearing it to pieces,” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X. (ANI)
