Borussia Dortmund: Kobel drama! Premiere completely escalated

He had to wait for this moment for years, and after the European Championships the time has finally come. From now on, Gregor Kobel is no longer just number 1 at Borussia Dortmund, but also in the Swiss national team (where he is more experienced). He had to wait a long time behind Yann Sommer.

Kobel's debut as Switzerland's first-choice goalkeeper was also due to take place during the current international break. But it backfired completely. The Borussia Dortmund keeper's team had a disastrous second half.

In the Nations League, Switzerland is in a group with Spain, Serbia and Denmark. The opening match was against the Danish Nordic team. But the encounter did not go as the Swiss had hoped – it got out of hand.

Shortly before half-time, Kobel prevented the opposing team from scoring with a strong save. Things got tough in the second half. First, Gladbach's Nico Elvedi was shown the red card for an emergency tackle. Denmark took advantage of their numerical superiority in the 82nd minute when Patrick Dorgu, who had just been substituted on for the first time, beat Kobel with a tunnel.

But things got even worse for the Borussia Dortmund keeper and his compatriots. Shortly after the goal, five players (three Swiss) were given yellow cards for forming a pack. After that, Kobel's colleagues lost their nerve. Granit Xhaka, one of the pack leaders, got into a tough tackle shortly afterwards and was shown a yellow-red card. In injury time, Denmark increased the lead to 2-0 and took the win.

Switzerland already under pressure

This means that coach Murat Yakin's team is already under a lot of pressure in the second game. Without captain Xhaka and Elvedi, the German neighbors have to play against Spain. At the same time as Switzerland, they struggled to a draw against Serbia.
