32-year-old man arrested in Jigawa for sexually abusing a minor

On August 29, 2024, a bizarre incident occurred at the Dutse Police Headquarters in Jigawa State when a 32-year-old man named Bashir Umar lured an eight-year-old girl into a toilet where he tortured and sexually abused her.

Jigawa Police Command spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the bizarre incident in a press release on Sunday morning, disclosed that Umar hails from Galamawa town, Dutse LGA.

Shiisu found that the man had subjected the child to unimaginable torture before sexually abusing her under the most callous circumstances.

He said the alleged rapist inserted scissors and a spoon into the girl's vagina and anus.

He also said that he injected the child with an undisclosed substance into her genital area, causing her to lose consciousness and bleed heavily.

“The perpetrator then took advantage of the girl’s vulnerability, offered her 150 naira and threatened to harm her and her parents if she told anyone about the sexual abuse,” Shiisu said.

He is said to have continued to terrorize and sexually abuse the helpless girl using the same methods and to silence her with threats whenever he met her on the way to school.

Following the sexual trauma, the PPRO found that the victim suffered severe physical consequences, including complications with urination and defecation.

According to PPRO, during interrogation the girl confessed to her long-term extramarital affair with the suspect.

Furthermore, Shiisu stated: “The survivor is currently at the Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse where she has been admitted and is receiving treatment.

“The suspect was arrested and handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for discreet investigation.”
