ABU DHABI, 8th September, 2024 (WAM) — Over 460,000 children in the Gaza Strip have been vaccinated against polio in just 8 days, thanks to an emergency campaign launched by the United Arab Emirates targeting more than 640,000 children.

This campaign comes in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and was launched last Sunday in collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and UNRWA.

The campaign is being carried out as part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 at 150 vaccination sites in Gaza and is supported by volunteers and medical teams to ensure easy access for families and children.

Parents of children vaccinated against polio expressed their deep gratitude to the UAE for its timely intervention and tireless support to Gaza residents, especially children, during the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

The confirmation by WHO of the first polio case in Gaza in a quarter of a century last August underscored the urgency of this vaccination campaign. Over 2,100 health workers, including mobile teams, are working tirelessly to ensure that every child receives the vaccine during humanitarian pauses and ceasefires.
