Dream vs. Fever WNBA prediction, odds and key players to watch on Sunday, September 8 (T

The Atlanta Dream remained in the race for 8th place in the WNBA on Friday night, managing a comeback win in overtime against the Dallas Wings thanks to 33 points from star guard Rhyne Howard.

The win keeps Atlanta level with the Chicago Sky, although the Sky have the edge at this point in the season, sitting in 8th place. Both teams play on Sunday, so there could be some changes in the standings.

Atlanta will face the Indiana Fever on Friday, whose five-game winning streak ended on Friday against the Minnesota Lynx.

Indiana is still ranked 6th in the W-League and has had one of the best offenses in the league since the Olympic break, led by guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell.

The bookies are giving the Fever the edge at home on Sunday – where they have been considered a difficult team to beat all season.

Here's a breakdown of the game, the odds, players to watch and my top tip for Sunday.

Report of fever injuries

Atlanta Dream

Rhyne Howard: Howard had a great game Friday night, scoring 33 points on 12-of-26 shooting, her second straight game with over 30 points. Howard is one of the W's best scorers when healthy, averaging 17.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, but she's hitting just 37.5 percent of her field shots and 33.8 percent of her threes.

Indiana fever

Caitlin Clark: The No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft wasn't particularly efficient from the field in the loss to the Lynx (8 of 21 shots), but she managed 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Clark hit 5 of 10 three-pointers, but with the playoffs approaching, she'll need to improve her two-point shooting.

Indiana has been in great form since a 1-8 start and has a 17-9 record in their last 26 games, putting them firmly in the running for a top-six spot in the W-League.

Not only have the Fever secured a playoff spot, but they also opened up a 1.5-game lead over the 6th-place Phoenix Mercury. Can they extend that lead today?

I like Indiana as a home favorite against an Atlanta team that is just 5-12 on the road and has lost five of its last seven games. The Dream is coming off a big win against Dallas on Friday, but they needed overtime to do it.

The Fever are the clearly better team, ranking 1st in offensive rating and 3rd in net rating in their last ten games.

Clark and Mitchell have formed a top-notch scoring duo at the guard positions, and the Fever are now 10-6 at home and against the spread this season.

I’m betting on Indiana at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Selection: Fever -5 (-108)
