Walt Ehmer, president and CEO of Waffle House, has died at the age of 58, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced Sunday morning.

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Walt Ehmer, CEO of Waffle House and proud graduate of Georgia Tech. His leadership, dedication and warmth touched the lives of many, both within the Waffle House family and beyond. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy,” said Dickens.

The circumstances of his death have not yet been disclosed, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

Ehmer joined Waffle House in 1992, was named president in 2006, CEO in 2012 and chairman in 2022, according to an interview conducted by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association for the Jospeh Mayo Pettit Alumni Distinguished Service Award.

In the same interview, Ehmer explains that the focus of his career has been on building relationships and helping others.

He was an active member of the community and served on local boards including Aaron's, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Atlanta Police Foundation and Metro Atlanta Commerce.

“Walt was a dedicated leader, a tireless advocate for public safety and a steadfast supporter of our mission to build a safer, stronger Atlanta,” the police foundation posted on Facebook.

“His passion for community service and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others will leave a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.”
