15-year-old boy dies after suffering from water shortage at a natural site

A 15-year-old boy has died after getting into trouble in the water at a beautiful spot.

Emergency services, including police, rushed to Scotman's Flash in Wigan at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports that the child was in difficulty.

Members of the public attempted to rescue the boy, whose name is unknown. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Greater Manchester Police said they did not see any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and that the boy's family was currently being supported.

In a post on social media, Scotman's Flash also confirmed the tragic news and wrote that they were “deeply saddened” by the incident.

The boy was pulled from the water after getting into trouble at Scotman's Flash on Saturday afternoon

“Our staff noticed the young man in the water and tried to rescue him, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful,” the post continued.

“We would like to thank them for their courage and determination.”

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “At around 3pm yesterday (Saturday 7 September 2024), officers were called to reports of a 15-year-old male suspected of being in the water at Scotman's Flash in Wigan.

“He was rescued from the water by citizens, but unfortunately died despite the efforts of the emergency services.”

“There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and his family is currently being assisted by specialist officers.”
