NFL Week 1: Houston Texans begin regular season away against Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KTRK) — The first Sunday of the 2024 NFL season has begun. So, Texans fans, to use the iconic words of legendary Hall of Fame ring announcer Michael Buffer: “Let’s get ready to fight!”

On Sunday, the Houston Texans begin Week 1 of the NFL regular season away against their AFC South rivals, the Indianapolis Colts, at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, along with franchise cornerstone CJ Stroud and co., are ready to start the new season.

“We're excited about the 2024 season, excited about our team. And we can't wait to get started so we don't have any questions about last year,” Ryans said during the Texans' practice on Wednesday.

As they begin their regular season journey, the Texans have named Stroud, defensive end Will Anderson Jr., offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, safety Jimmie Ward, long snapper Jon Weeks, and new additions wideout Stefon Diggs and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair as team captains.

Many NFL experts also expect the number 7 to have an MVP-worthy season and lead his newly formed team to become a serious contender for the Super Bowl.

ESPN bet currently lists the Texans at +1600 with the eighth-best odds to win the Super Bowl title.

“We want to gain confidence early. I think we've done the work we needed to do in training camp and now it's up to us to go out there this Sunday and do our best,” Stroud said at practice on Wednesday about the goals he wants to achieve this season.

As for the Colts, starting quarterback Anthony Richardson returns to the field in Week 1 after missing most of his rookie year last season due to injury.

“We're really looking forward to preparing for the Colts, a big matchup for us, so we're excited about it,” Ryans said ahead of Sunday's clash with Indianapolis.

Nevertheless, Houston wants to start the season strong with a win over the Colts in order to secure a top spot in the AFC South early on.
