Family of five dies in tragic accident on way home to newborn

  • A father, his two daughters aged eight and four, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law died after a tragic accident on the Rameswaram Highway
  • The 12-day-old baby, his mother and the taxi driver survived the accident with serious injuries and were taken to hospital

Rameswaram – A family is in mourning after a tragic accident on the Rameswaram Highway where their taxi collided with a stationary government bus, resulting in the death of five relatives.

The family was on their way back from the hospital where they had taken their newborn baby, who was unwell.

According to police, the father had hired a private taxi to take the baby to a health facility, The Hindu Bureau reported.

Among those who died at the spot were Rajesh, the father of the newborn, as well as his daughters Dharshana Rani (8) and Pranaveeka (5), his father-in-law Senthil Manoharan (70) and his mother-in-law Angaleswari (60).

The 12-day-old baby, his mother and the taxi driver survived but suffered serious injuries.

They were taken to Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were shifted to a government hospital for postmortem and other formalities.

How did the accident on the Rameswaram highway happen?

According to ETV Bharat, preliminary investigation by the Uchipuli traffic police revealed that the driver of the state-run bus had parked on the highway to help a commuter who was in distress.

During this stop, the taxi crashed into the rear of the bus, resulting in the fatal accident.

Meanwhile, investigations into the accident are ongoing.

13 people die in road accident on Katiola-Niakara road

In another tragic story, 13 people died when their bus collided with a tanker filled with petrol on the Katiola-Niakara Highway.

According to the national monitoring authority, the accident occurred because the road was narrowed by a truck that had parked on the road without indicators.

Another 46 passengers also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for urgent medical attention.
