Teacher remanded in custody for seven days for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student

KOTA BARU, Sept 8 – A teacher of a local school has been remanded in custody for seven days, until Saturday, to assist in investigations into a case of sexual assault of a 12-year-old student between March and August this year.

The remand warrant for the 49-year-old man was issued by Judge Rais Imran Hamid to facilitate police investigation under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The teacher is said to have sexually abused the boy during class at a school, as well as in a car near a shopping mall here and at a resort near Pantai Cahaya Bulan.

Meanwhile, Tumpat District Police Chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie confirmed when contacted that he had received a report on the case. — Bernama
