Seer attacked by drunken men on banks of Chambal river in Nagda; accused arrested

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India]September 8 (ANI): Sadhu Gopaldas, a resident of Mungawali in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, was attacked and allegedly stripped by two drunken men in an incident on the banks of river Chambal in Nagda region on Thursday.

According to his statement, Gopaldas was travelling from Dwarkadhish to Nagda and was on his way to the ashram of Tyagiji Maharaj when he encountered two drunken men.

After obtaining information from the locals about the location of the Ashram, Gopaldas travelled to Chambal. On the way, he met these two men who started abusing him.

The men accused Gopaldas of being a fake sadhu and demanded that he recite the Gayatri mantra. When he failed to comply with their demands, they started beating him while stripping off his clothes.

Gopaldas sustained injuries to his leg and other body parts in the attack.

He somehow managed to escape and reached Tyagiji Maharaj's ashram where he was provided with clothes. He then reported the incident to Birlagram police on Friday.

Commenting on the issue, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nitesh Bhargava said that a case has been registered against the accused and they have been arrested.

“Both parties are being medically examined and the police are reviewing the footage of the incident. Further investigation is being carried out to collect evidence and initiate appropriate legal action,” Bhargava added. (ANI)
