Union Minister SP Singh Baghel visited the family members of the deceased in the road accident in Hathras on Saturday (September 8, 2024).

Mr. Baghel said, “In my Lok Sabha constituency Agra, all members of a family from Semra village were on their way to Hathras for a social event when the bus accident occurred.”

“Sixteen people from the same family, including women and children, have lost their lives. I would like to thank the Prime Minister for announcing an ex-gratia donation of Rs 200,000 from the PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased,” he added.

He added that people from all communities have expressed their condolences. “I will consult a lawyer to seek compensation from the vehicle responsible for the accident. The funds from CM, PMNRF and insurance will help the family to meet their livelihood,” he said.

A total of 17 people died in the collision between a bus and a van in Hathras on Friday (September 6, 2024), according to a senior police official. Sixteen others were injured and are being treated in hospitals. A case has been registered in this regard and the bus driver has been arrested.

Hathras SP Nipun Agarwal said, “Around 6.30 pm yesterday, a collision occurred between a bus and a Magic Van. The administration quickly responded to the accident spot. All the bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem, while the injured were shifted to the hospital.”

“The total death toll is now 17, including 7 women, 4 men and 6 children. 16 people are injured and are being treated. A case has been registered and the driver has been arrested,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the Hathras road accident and announced a gratuity of Rs 200,000 to the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

“The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia donation of Rs 200,000 from the PMNRF for the next of kin of all those who died in the accident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The injured will be given Rs 50,000,” said a post by the Prime Minister's Office on X.

Prime Minister Modi expressed regret over the incident and said that both the local administration and the state government would provide all possible help to the victims.

“The road accident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My deepest condolences go out to those who lost their loved ones in the accident. May God give them strength in this difficult time. I also wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is busy helping the victims in every possible way,” the PMO post added.

The Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, expressed his condolences to the families affected by the Hathras disaster, wished the injured a speedy recovery and assured that the administration had been instructed to ensure appropriate treatment for those affected.
