Disturbing 911 call from 9-year-old Alabama girl who witnessed her father being 'stabbed to death by her stepmother' reveals chilling details

A 9-year-old Alabama girl made a 911 call after witnessing her father being stabbed to death by his girlfriend, who referred to the child as her stepmother, police said.

Taylor Rawlins, 33, was fatally stabbed in his mobile home at the Charleston Apartments on Sollie Road on August 22. His girlfriend's attorney, Jennifer Heathcoe, claimed her client acted in self-defense.

Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood alleges Heathcoe, 31, tried to get the girl to lie during the phone call, Fox10 TV reported.

In the emergency call, which came in at 7:40 p.m., the young girl told the operator, “My stepmother stabbed my father,” and then said, “Please come quickly! My father is going to die.”

According to the report, the operator asked where the child's stepmother was and if she still had the knife. The child replied: “I don't know. I'm in my room.”

The prosecutor said that during the conversation, “the defendant's voice could be heard telling the calling child to say it was not him.”

Blackwood added: “And you know, the fact that this happened in front of children is absolutely tragic.”

The transcript shows a second emergency call – this time from Heathcoe – informing the operator that there was an emergency.

“Yeah, there was just this, uh, argument and… I got you, baby. I got your no, you're not. Breathe for me,” she is heard saying in the phone call.

Leslie McEdlerry, Heathcoe's attorney, filed a self-defense claim, claiming that Rawlins was the aggressor that night.

However, the prosecutor suggested that the 911 calls could undermine her claims of self-defense.

The children were reportedly home at the time of the stabbing. Heathcoe's lawyer said they came into the room after hearing a commotion.

She also said that a neighbor who heard the 911 call checked on Heathcoe, a registered nurse, and saw her performing CPR on Rawlins, WKRG reported.

“It was a turbulent and violent relationship, and there was a violent incident that led to it,” McElderry said.

“This didn't just come out of nowhere. Because of her position, she felt the need to defend herself.”

Her father, Daniel Cain, was present and was overwhelmed with emotion.

He told the news station that his daughter and Rawlins have been together for about a year and her name is on the lease for the apartments.

“I just hope she gets out because I don't think she deserves this,” he said, among other things. “It was self-defense.”

Heathcoe was denied bail because she failed to appear for a domestic violence arraignment after she and Rawlins reportedly got into an argument at a bar in Daphne.

Her lawyer said the couple had argued over the car keys and her client believed Rawlins was too drunk to drive, the news agency said.

Heathcoe is currently being held at the Mobile Metro Jail. Her next preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 1.
