Two weeks into the 2024 Iowa high school football season, the top-ranked team in Class 5A is still without a win.

The Dowling-Valley rivalry in West Des Moines lived up to expectations Friday night when the second-ranked Maroons defeated the first-ranked Tigers 26-23 in overtime.

Ankeny, the No. 1 team last season according to The Gazette, fell to 0-2 with a 21-13 loss to No. 5 Southeast Polk after an opening loss to Ankeny Centennial.

In Eastern Iowa, another No. 1 team had to admit defeat to top-class competition: Williamsburg (3A) narrowly lost to Cedar Rapids Xavier (4A No. 7) 29:27.

However, it wasn't just the top 10 matchups that are likely to see changes in next week's Gazette poll. Eight ranked teams lost to unranked opponents.

Here's how all 71 teams in the Gazette poll performed in Week 2.
