Teenager sexually harassed by neighbours in Delhi suburbs, accused released

New Delhi: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her neighbour while she was alone in her house outside Delhi, officials said on Saturday.

Efforts are on to nab the fugitive accused, who is in his thirties, they added.

According to a police officer, the accused lived with his family in the same building as the girl and worked as a laborer.

The incident occurred in the Ranhola area on Friday afternoon when the teenager's mother wanted to drop her sibling off at school while her father was at work, the official said.

The accused broke into the girl's house, sexually abused her and threatened her with a sharp weapon when she resisted him, he said.

He added that the accused went into hiding after the incident for fear of being caught.

When the victim returned home, she informed her mother about the alleged sexual assault. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and the local police were also alerted.

Police said the victim was released the same day after treatment.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and teams have been formed to nab him, they added.
