A1 in NRW: Tire burst! Driver dies after dramatic accident

On Friday evening (September 6th) a terrible traffic accident occurred on the A1 in North Rhine-Westphalia near Wuppertal, with fatal consequences for the driver. A car driver's tire burst and he veered off the road. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the car driver died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

A 73-year-old man from Switzerland was driving on the A1 in North Rhine-Westphalia towards Cologne. His vehicle was a Volvo. According to the current state of the investigation, however, the tire of his car suddenly burst in the Ehrenberg car park near Wuppertal.

First responders who witnessed the accident stopped immediately and provided first aid. The local authorities were also contacted. Among the witnesses on the A1 in North Rhine-Westphalia was even a doctor who immediately took measures to resuscitate the injured man.
