Toddler stabbed to death by 6-year-old brother, police say

JOLIET, Ill. (WLS) — A Joliet, Illinois, home remains vacant after a stabbing inside left a 2-year-old boy dead by his brother, police said.

“To our knowledge, the family was at home when the incident occurred,” said Sergeant Dwayne English of the Joliet Police Department.

It was reported that the family member present was the boys' mother.

She called the police after finding her two-year-old son stabbed multiple times.

This happened shortly after 5 p.m. Friday at the home on Fairway Drive near Caddy Lane in Joliet.

The boy was taken by the Joliet Fire Department to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he later died.

According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that the boy was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife by his six-year-old brother.

Investigators are working with the children's family, who they say are cooperating with the investigation.

“The six-year-old brother is currently with his family and officers here at the Joliet Police Department continue to work with the Department of Children and Family Services to plan next steps in this investigation,” English said.
