BJP MP Jyotiramay Mahato asks JP Nadda to investigate ‘misuse’ of hospitals by Bengal government

Calcutta (West Bengal) [India]September 7 (ANI): Bhartiya Janata Party MP Jyotiramay Singh Mahato, in a letter to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, on Saturday accused the West Bengal government of “misusing” hospitals to protect “corrupt TMC leaders” and demanded an inquiry.

MP Mahato alleged that government hospitals, especially SSKM Hospital, had been “repeatedly misused” to “obstruct justice” by protecting TMC leaders.

“Government medical facilities, which are supposed to provide care and treatment, have been repeatedly used to shield ministers and TMC leaders from legal investigations. The misuse of government hospitals, especially SSKM Hospital, to obstruct justice is well documented and has even been observed by the Calcutta High Court,” Mahato wrote in the letter.

“For example, when the TMC leaders involved in the Teachers' Recruitment Scam (SSC) and Saradha Chit Fund scam were facing trial, many of them conveniently landed in the SSKM VIP areas for questionable reasons,” Mahato added.

Mahato further alleged that health officials were “involved” in tampering with evidence in connection with the recent rape and murder of the junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

“The recent tragic rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College has once again brought these issues to the fore. There have been several attempts to tamper with evidence and cover up the crime. As you know, just a day after the incident, a leaked memo revealed the involvement of health officials in construction work near the crime scene,” Mahato said.

Mahato demanded that JP Nadda conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractice in Bengal’s health system.

“I humbly request your intervention and consideration for a thorough investigation into the malpractice in the health system of West Bengal. The involvement of health officials in shielding criminals, particularly in the RG Kar case, requires urgent attention,” Mahato wrote.

The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The incident sparked nationwide protests. Soon after, a volunteer was arrested. The CBI also arrested Dr Sandip Ghosh for alleged financial malpractice at the medical facility. (ANI)
