Perpetrator still on the run after knife attack

Attack at Karlsruhe Central Station: A 32-year-old man was stabbed with a knife and suffered serious injuries. According to the police, the perpetrator is still at large on Saturday afternoon.

The criminal investigation department is currently looking for witnesses, officials said.

The scene took place in the middle of the train station. A man armed with a knife chased another through the building, stabbed him and then disappeared into the crowd without a trace. The federal police were immediately alerted and when they arrived they found only the 32-year-old seriously injured.

After a train conductor raised the alarm, the police deployed a large number of officers. The entire station area was cordoned off to search for the fleeing attacker – a measure that also disrupted rail traffic and brought some trains to a standstill.

Despite the intensive search, the suspect could not be found.

The police currently assume that the incident was a personal conflict. “The background to the crime is still unclear and is the subject of police investigations.” A crime of passion cannot be ruled out.

When the federal police arrived, the suspect had already fled in the direction of the zoo exit. As part of the manhunt, the main train station was cordoned off, a police spokeswoman reported. In some areas, trains were also no longer allowed to run. There was no danger to the public.

Therefore, in their opinion, there is no immediate danger to the general public. The injured 32-year-old is now out of danger, but has not yet commented on the attack. He is due to be questioned later today.
