A large police cordon was set up on a busy city centre street following a robbery. This morning, Saturday 7 September, forensics officers were examining the crime scene on Church Street.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Church and Lord Streets after a man had been assaulted. The victim, in his 30s, sustained injuries to his lower back and was treated at the scene by emergency personnel.

A cordon is currently in place outside Decathlon on Church Street. However, no store appears to have closed due to the incident. One employee told the ECHO: “When I got to work at 8.30am there were police everywhere.”
