After knife attack: Police search for suspected perpetrator

A man is seriously injured with a knife in Karlsruhe's main train station. The suspected perpetrator is on the run – he may not be a stranger to the victim.

Karlsruhe (dpa) – After the knife attack in Karlsruhe main station, the police are searching for the suspected perpetrator. The criminal investigation department is currently looking for witnesses, officials said. The suspected perpetrator chased a 32-year-old on the platform with a knife and seriously injured him. “The background to the crime is still unclear and is the subject of police investigations.” A crime of passion cannot be ruled out.

Initial investigations indicate that there was an argument between the two men on Friday evening. The alleged attacker ran after the 32-year-old on the platform and shouted something at him. He then inflicted several stab and cut wounds on his upper body and leg with a knife.

When the federal police arrived, the suspect had already fled in the direction of the zoo exit. As part of the manhunt, the main train station was cordoned off, a police spokeswoman reported. In some areas, trains were also no longer allowed to run. There was no danger to the public.

The 32-year-old is due to be questioned during the course of the day. After an operation during the night, his life is no longer in danger.
