IOWA CITY – Two legendary rivals from the same state will face off again Saturday as the Iowa Hawkeyes seek another win against the Iowa State Cyclones in the battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy.

These two teams have been competing since the late 1800s and have played some crazy games over the years. The Hawkeyes and Cyclones have been playing for the Cy-Hawk Trophy since the rivalry resumed in 1977, and while both teams have had winning streaks, the rivalry has been dominated for the most part by Iowa. The Hawkeyes lead the overall standings at 47-23 and have won seven of the last eight meetings.

Each team enters Saturday with wins over FCS opponents. After a slow start against Illinois State, Iowa turned things around in the second half, scoring 34 points in the final two quarters en route to a 40-0 victory. For a team that has been derided over the years for its lack of offense, a strong finish last week gave the Hawkeyes confidence.

Iowa State may not have scored as many points as its in-state opponents, but its defense did its part to help the Cyclones begin the 2024 season with a 21-3 record. Despite finishing just 7-6 last season, ISU played well in the Big 12, finishing in third place in the conference with a 6-3 conference record.
