Bengal News: Teenager returning home from school found unconscious and in torn clothes in Hugli; BJP criticises Mamata

West Bengal News: A 15-year-old teenager was abducted and “sexually assaulted” as she was returning home from her tuition classes in Bengal's Hugli district. This comes as Bengal prepares to witness massive protests across the state on September 8 after the brutal rape and murder case of the junior doctor in Kolkata came to light a month earlier.

The teenager was found unconscious with torn clothes in Haripal in Hooghly district. The incident reportedly took place on Friday evening, September 6.

The girl was admitted to a local hospital and underwent a medical examination. A complaint was filed with the West Bengal Police, which has initiated an investigation.

“Please respect the privacy of the girl and her family. Strict legal action will be taken against those spreading rumours,” said a post by the West Bengal Police.

Speaking to X, BJP IT Cell leader Amit Malviya took a stand against the police handling of the case, saying, “Mamata Banerjee's police have cordoned off the hospital, the media is not allowed to enter and local TMC leaders are marching through to ensure that the incident is not reported.”

Attacking West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banejee, Malviya said, “West Bengal is the most unsafe place for women and girls. Mamata Banejee has failed. She must resign immediately. Enough is enough. She has not even set up fast track courts to try rape and POCSO cases.”

Another teenager raped at home in Hooghly

West Bengal Police reported another case of sexual harassment on Friday. Police said that a 16-year-old girl was sexually harassed at home by one Sanaullah Khan, who came to Arambagh Police District of Hugli (Rural) Police District to carry out repair work at the house.

According to West Bengal police, Khan had threatened the teenager that there would be dire consequences if she told anyone about the sexual abuse.

However, after four months, it was discovered that she was pregnant, following which, based on her complaint, a case under the POCSO Act was registered at Arambagh police station on September 11, 2021. Sub-Inspector Bimalkumar Chakraborty conducted the investigation, arrested the accused and remanded him in judicial custody pending trial.
