LOWER CHARLES/PETINGEN – During two stationary checks in the south-west of Luxembourg, officers discovered numerous violations. However, one driver in particular stands out.

The sad daily record for speed checks by the Police Grand-Ducale on the A13 near Bascharage was set on Thursday morning by a speeder who was driving at a whopping 73 km/h over the speed limit. His lead foot cost the man his driving license, which the officers confiscated on the spot, according to a police statement on Friday.

But that was just the tip of the iceberg: another 18 drivers who were driving too fast during the two-hour check were fined. Depending on the speeding offense, they were either fined 49 euros or 145 euros plus two points.

Missing papers and worn tires

On Thursday afternoon, a check focusing on vehicle documents took place on the N31 in Pétange. Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., officers noticed a total of six vehicles with defective documents, two of which were overdue for a technical inspection.

As “bycatch”, three cases of missing seat belts and two cars with worn tires were also identified. Both of these issues also led to a total of three fines during the previous check on the A13.
