11-year-old girl ‘sexually abused’ in Sultanpuri school, self-defense trainer arrested

Delhi: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by a self-defence trainer in her classroom at a public school in Delhi's Sultanpuri area on Friday. The girl's family and some neighbours then gathered outside the police station to protest. The police have now arrested the accused Satish (45), who was conducting the class at the school.

The incident took place with a Class 7 student of government-run Sarvodyaya Kanya Vidyalaya H Block Sultanpuri. The accused was not a regular teacher at the school and was conducting free self-defence classes there through a non-governmental organisation, a police official told news agency PTI.

The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against the accused under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The victim is currently undergoing medical counselling and examination.

Earlier, the minor's father had claimed that neither the school principal nor the police had taken any action in the matter. He said his daughter called him from a phone at the school to tell him about the ordeal. She told him that her karate teacher had touched her inappropriately during class. He also allegedly threatened the minor with expulsion from school.

According to the victim's father, he had to wait outside the Sultanpuri police station for over two hours. He also claimed that the police did not listen to him and did not allow him to meet his daughter, who was at the police station with his wife.

The minor's father demanded severe punishment for the accused teacher and the school principal, who, in his opinion, supported the teacher and did nothing.

“We went to the principal, but she supported this teacher. We wanted the principal to take action. We are here (at the police station), but so far no action has been taken… We want this teacher to be punished and the principal to be suspended because she is supporting this teacher,” said the victim's father.

Police said further investigations into the case were ongoing.
