Ludhiana: 25-year-old injured in attack, succumbs to his injuries; 5 arrests

A 25-year-old man, who was attacked along with his brothers by a group of youths from the same area, succumbed to his injuries while being treated at a hospital late Thursday night. The attack took place in Sunet village on Wednesday evening when the attackers entered the victims' house armed with sharp weapons.

The victim was identified as Veerpal Singh, his injured brothers are Kuldeep Singh and Gurwinder Singh.

The police have registered a case against them based on a complaint filed by their father Kala Singh. The accused, identified as Shammi, Hardeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Kala Singh and Jagga – all residents of Sunet village – are at large.

According to Kala Singh, the accused had earlier intercepted and attacked his son Kuldeep near their house. Kala Singh rushed to Kuldeep's aid and brought him home, but the attackers chased them and forcibly entered the house.

“The accused brutally attacked my elder son Gurwinder and younger son Veerpal with sharp weapons. After the attack, they fled the scene and we took the injured to the hospital,” said Kala Singh.

The victims were initially taken to Ludhiana Civil Hospital, from where Veerpal's critical condition necessitated his shift to Christian Medical College and Hospital, where Veerpal succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

ASI Parshotam Lal, the investigating officer of Sarabha Nagar police station, said the police had initially filed an FIR under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 191(2) (rioting), 190 (unlawful assembly), 115(2) (intentional causing hurt), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 126(2) (wrongful confinement) of the BNS Act. After Veerpal's death, the police have added murder charges to the case.

The ASI further stated that raids were being conducted to arrest the accused, who were still on the run.
