ABC News Chief Correspondent Matt Gutman covered this episode and this case. In this episode, he interviewed Karen Read about her controversial trial, in which she explains her version of what really happened the night her boyfriend was found dead in January 2022.

ABC's official description for this new episode 33 of 20/20 season 46 reads as follows: “It's the case that has the nation on edge: Karen Read is the woman accused of killing her boyfriend, a Boston police officer, John O'Keefe, in a tragic and controversial case that has left families and a society demanding answers.

In an all-new “20/20,” ABC News chief crime correspondent Matt Gutman interviews Read, who gives her full version of the events of that night. On the morning of January 29, 2022, during a historic snowstorm that hit Massachusetts, Boston police officer John O'Keefe was found unconscious outside in a pile of snow.

“20/20” examines the evening when O'Keefe and Read, a financial expert, were drinking with friends before accepting an invitation to continue the evening at the nearby home of a fellow Boston police officer. In exclusive interviews with “20/20,” O'Keefe's family and friends talk about their fears that his legacy has been lost amid all the headlines about the case.”

An alternate description reads: “AN ALL-NEW '20/20' FEATURES AN INTERVIEW WITH KAREN READ, THE WOMAN ACCUSED OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER AND AT THE CENTER OF THIS SUMMER'S MOST TALKED-UP TRIAL. Fierce debate surrounds the tragic death of Boston police officer John O'Keefe amid accusations of defending a cover-up when he is found dead during a violent blizzard in Boston.”
