Raveena Tandon condemns brutal attack on teenager in Bangladesh: Bollywood News

Raveena Tandon has expressed her shock over the brutal attack on 15-year-old Utsav Mondal by a mob inside a police station in Bangladesh. The incident took place in Khulna's Sonadanga area after Mondal was accused of posting allegedly offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad on social media. Though initial reports suggested that the boy had died of his injuries, Khulna Metropolitan Police's Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) Mohammad Tajul Islam later clarified to India Today that the boy was alive and receiving medical treatment.

Raveena shared her reaction to the issue on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Heartbreaking. This world is going back to the dark ages…”

Raveena Tandon had previously denounced violence against minorities in Bangladesh, which is currently going through a crisis. She wrote: “I express my solidarity with the victims and call for an immediate end to this violence. It is important that world leaders and influential figures, especially from India, speak out against these atrocities and work together to protect the rights and dignity of all people. We cannot remain silent in the face of such suffering.”

At around 11:45 p.m., a group of madrasa students brought 15-year-old Utsav Mondal to the police station, accusing him of posting “objectionable comments” about the Prophet Muhammad on Facebook. As the news spread, tensions escalated. More students and members of the Imam Association gathered outside the station, demanding harsh punishment for Mondal.

Mohammad Tajul Islam reported that the students initially tried to try Utsav under their own laws and even demanded his execution. Despite the deputy commissioner's assurance that a legal process would follow, the protesters remained dissatisfied. By the evening, the crowd had grown to nearly a thousand people, aggravating the situation.

A false report broadcast over a loudspeaker in the mosque claiming that Utsav had been lynched briefly dispersed the crowd. However, when it became clear that he was still alive and in police custody, tensions escalated again and the mob demanded Utsav's extradition.

By midnight, the situation had deteriorated significantly. Despite the presence of police, army and navy, the mob overran the police station and brutally attacked Utsav in front of them.

Utsav, who was seriously injured, was eventually rescued by army personnel and taken to a medical facility. Authorities confirmed on Thursday morning that he is being treated at an army hospital and is now in a stable condition. A blasphemy case has been filed against him and the police have promised to take necessary legal action.
