We want the accused to be sentenced to death – head of the family

The head of the family of O'Reilly Senior High School (SHS) graduate Nii Afotey Chiribour IV, who was stabbed to death on September 2, 2024, has said he wants to sentence the accused responsible for the death of his grandson to death.

In an interview with GhanaWeb TV’s SayItLoud, Nii Chiribour IV said the accused must die in the same manner his grandson died.

He pointed out that justice would not be served if the defendant, whose name is Gideon, were sentenced by the court to only a prison term.

“We want the court to decide that he should also be sentenced to death. Anyone who stabs someone must suffer the same fate, as it is even written in the Bible.”

“The court should decide that he is sentenced to death. If this were Rawlings' time, he would be executed. As for the teachers, as I said, our leader has announced that he will take care of them and ensure that they are imprisoned. If he does not do that, we will take the necessary measures,” he said in Georgia.

Meanwhile, the family of the defendant Gideon, who was 18 years old according to court documents, has asked for forgiveness for their son's actions.

Speaking to GhanaWeb at the La District Court premises after the court remanded the accused in police custody, a family member said they did not know what happened to their son.

The defendant's family moaned and pleaded with the victim's family, who were also present on the court premises.
