Man from Sibu has to pay 8,000 RM fine for sexually harassing his disabled sister-in-law

SIBU, Sept 6 – The court today sentenced a 59-year-old man to a fine of RM8,000 and eight months’ imprisonment for sexually abusing his disabled sister-in-law.

Judge Musyiri Peet sentenced the man, based on his own guilty plea, to a charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault with intent to outrage modesty.

The section provides for a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, a fine, caning or two such penalties, in case of conviction.

The defendant paid the fine.

He committed the crime against his 38-year-old sister-in-law on June 14, 2022, at around 7 a.m. in a local house.

It is assumed that the victim is unable to make his or her own decisions due to his or her learning disability and that he or she has difficulty speaking.

According to the facts of the case, a surveillance camera in the plaintiff's living room recorded the defendant sexually abusing his victim.

The complainant immediately reported the incident to the police and the accused was arrested on the same day.

DPP David Bakit Nuing presided over the case while the accused was represented by lawyer Jacob Wong. — The Borneo Post
