TikToker “Abang Bas” in custody for five days after filming schoolgirls on his bus

KLUANG, Sept 6 – Police have succeeded in obtaining a five-day remand warrant against the school bus driver, popularly known as Abang Bus, for allegedly recording videos of primary school girls to upload them on a popular video-sharing platform.

The 24-year-old suspect was previously arrested in Simpang Renggam after police received reports that the uploaded videos and comments involved sexual harassment of children.

Kluang Deputy Police Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the arrest warrant was issued by Batu Pahat Magistrate Suhaila Safiuddin.

He said the suspect, who is currently in police custody, is being represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

“The suspect will assist investigators in this case until the end of his pre-trial detention on September 10,” he said in a brief response to the media when contacted today.

Earlier, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Kluang District Police arrested the suspect at an unknown location in Simpang Renggam at 2:57 a.m.

The arrest is believed to have taken place before dawn after the suspect was reported for recording videos of the children and uploading them to the popular video-sharing account TikTok.

Johor police chief M. Kumar reportedly said the case was being investigated under Section 15(a)(iii) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and Section 15(2) of the Child Act 2001.

He also welcomed the cooperation of the parents of the children shown in the TikTok videos in the investigation.

The two sections deal with crimes related to child pornography and the publication of images of vulnerable children.

Yesterday, the issue became heated on social media after the suspect allegedly stated that one of the students in the video was his ideal “crush.”

Many criticized his comments as they bordered on sexual harassment of children.

Minister for Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri also expressed her disapproval of the suspect's comments and called on the police to investigate the case.

In a statement on her X (formerly Twitter), she said that the Child Development Department (JPKK), under her ministry, had been instructed to take action against the perpetrator behind the TikTok videos.

The bus driver's TikTok account, which mainly shows videos of the students, has more than 600,000 followers. The videos have so far received 10.5 million likes.
