Foreign Minister confirms candidates for November 5 election | News, Sports, Jobs

BISMARCK – North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe on Thursday certified the candidates for president and vice president on the ballot for the state’s Nov. 5 general election.

The Libertarian Party was certified for the 2024 North Dakota election in March and nominated Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat. The Democratic-NPL Party nominated Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and the Republican Party nominated Donald Trump and JD Vance.

The following independent candidates met the requirements for inclusion on the electoral list.

– Michael Coachman and Lydia Gessele for Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

– Robert Tolar, candidate for the state’s 6th Senate District.

Tolar, of Bottineau, ran for state Senate against Shawn Vedaa in 2022. He will run for the Senate seat against Rep. Paul Thomas (R-Velva) in November.

Coachman, of Larimore, has served on the Larimore City Council and has run for several other offices, including as an independent for governor in 2020. Gessele, of Chaseley, chaired a sponsoring committee that pushed to put a bill to change the state's election process on the ballot.

In November, they will face Republicans Kelly Armstrong and Michelle Strinden and Democrats Merrill Piepkorn and Patrick Hart.

Two candidates have filed to appear on the ballot for an unexpired two-year term in the Williston-area 23rd District. Mark Casler is running as a Democrat and Dennis Nehring as a Republican. They are the only two candidates running for the seat.
