Waco man arrested for allegedly stabbing victim during argument, found in possession of meth

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A Waco man who was arrested for stabbing another man during an argument was found in possession of methamphetamine, an affidavit states.

Samuel Thomas, 52, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a Class 1/1-B controlled substance less than one gram.

On Sept. 5, police were dispatched to the 500 block of South New Road after receiving an unknown call. The caller did not respond, but two men could be heard in the background, one of whom said, “So, you're going to grab your gun now? Come on then,” and one of the men yelled to put the gun down, according to an affidavit.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the men on the train tracks behind the Walmart on Franklin Avenue, according to the affidavit.

The victim in the incident approached officers while the suspect, identified as Thomas, remained on the tracks, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, police noticed blood on the victim's hands and asked what injuries he had.

The victim showed police a cut on his left upper arm and additional cuts on his hands and fingers, which prompted police to call for an ambulance, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, police said the victim appeared unconscious and may have been drunk.

Police asked the victim what happened, but the affidavit states that he repeatedly said he was defending himself without going into detail.

Information on the victim was collected and relayed through dispatch, and it was determined that the victim was known to be a heavy drinker and had admitted to police that he had been drinking earlier that evening, the affidavit states.

After speaking to him again, the victim told police that Thomas approached him and began arguing with him, but did not explain what the argument was about, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, the victim said Thomas pulled out a knife and cut him.

When police asked the victim what he did to defend himself, he replied that he walked away, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, police took the victim to the rear parking lot of the Walmart to make it easier for the ambulance crew.

Shortly afterwards, the ambulance arrived on the scene and took the victim to the hospital.

Another officer spoke to Thomas and he claimed the victim accused him of stealing the victim's wallet and Thomas told police he did not have any knives on him, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, when officers searched Thomas, they found a blood-stained knife on him.

In addition, there was a small amount of blood smeared on Thomas' clothing, which he said came from the victim's attack.

According to the affidavit, Thomas also said he did not cut the victim and that the victim's injuries were the result of him falling on tire rims along the railroad tracks.

Based on the information gathered, police arrested Thomas and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the affidavit, police found methamphetamine and a pipe used for methamphetamine on Thomas after he was arrested and searched him.

While Thomas was in jail, a search of his property turned up a piece of plastic that appeared to contain a substance. According to the affidavit, Thomas said the substance was “ice” wrapped in plastic, which is another word for methamphetamine.

Thomas was remanded to the McLennan County Jail on a total bail of $13,000.
