Madhya Pradesh: Ujjain man rapes woman after making her drunk; video of the attack emerges | Latest news from India

A man allegedly raped a scrap collector in the Agar Naka district of Ujjain in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh by forcing her to drink alcohol, news agency PTI reported on Thursday, citing police.

The incident came to light after a video of the rape, shot by unidentified assailants, went viral on social media, said Om Prakash Mishra, Kotwali police superintendent.

“The accused Lokesh promised to marry her, forced her to drink alcohol and then raped her on Wednesday. Instead of stopping the crime, some passersby filmed the incident. Lokesh later fled the scene. After the woman filed a complaint when the effect of alcohol wore off, Lokesh was arrested,” the officer told PTI.

A case of rape and murder was registered after the body of a 19-year-old woman, who had gone missing days ago, was found with multiple injuries in Gunateerthawadi village in Karnataka, police said on Thursday, PTI reported.

Police said three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which reportedly occurred on August 29. The woman was reportedly killed after being hit on the head with a stone and her body was later dumped in the bushes. Police suspect she was sexually assaulted before her death.

In another case, a mentally ill woman was allegedly raped by three of her relatives in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district on Monday, police reported on Wednesday. The attack took place in a village under the jurisdiction of Dabhra police station. According to police, the accused, who were allegedly drunk, took the woman, who is in her early twenties, to an abandoned house and raped her. When police came to know about the incident, they immediately sent a team to the village, which led to the arrest of all three suspects.

The villagers claim that the accused are relatives of the woman and that two of them were involved in the illegal sale of locally produced liquor in the village.
