Woman arrested, charged with grievous bodily harm to a police officer

GULFPORT, Mississippi (WLOX) – According to Gulfport Police, 39-year-old Daronda Monique Jackson was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

At around 2:53 a.m., police said, Jackson arrived at the Gulfport Police Department to discuss a hit-and-run incident.

After speaking with her, an officer informed Jackson that she had several misdemeanor warrants out for her arrest and was under arrest.

Jackson told the officer that a juvenile was waiting in her vehicle and that she needed to inform him of the situation. The officer offered to relay the message to the juvenile.

The officer noticed that Jackson left the station and got into her vehicle on the driver's side.

According to police, the officer stood in the doorway of the open driver's door and ordered Jackson to exit the vehicle.

Jackson initially claimed she couldn't start the car, but according to GPD she did and put it in reverse.

As a result of the action, the officer was dragged along and the vehicle crashed into a sign.

The officer managed to escape and Jackson fled the scene, according to the GPD.

Jackson was later arrested after a brief chase involving Biloxi police.

Jackson was processed and taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center where she is being held on $250,000 bail.
