Woman from Ravenna dies in fatal hit-and-run accident

PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A 46-year-old Ravenna woman died Wednesday evening after being struck by two vehicles.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Janet Lynn Slaughter was crossing SR 59 from north to south around 9:45 p.m. when she was struck by a dark-colored pickup truck traveling east on SR 59.

Police said the driver turned right before fleeing the scene and is still at large.

A second driver, a 43-year-old man from Lake Milton, was also traveling east on SR 59 toward Wal Mart when he saw the victim lying in the road.

The Lake Milton man told police he tried to avoid her, but was unsuccessful and hit her.

He then moved to the right side of the road to stop other drivers.

Slaughter was pronounced dead at the scene.
