Two people hospitalized with serious injuries after house fire in Etobicoke

Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a fire at a home in Etobicoke on Thursday morning.

At around 10:20 a.m., emergency crews were initially dispatched to the home on Heman Street, near Lake Shore Boulevard and Royal York Road.

According to the Toronto Fire Department, firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the basement of the house. Therefore, the decision was made to upgrade the operation to two alert levels.

The building was searched and two people were eventually handed over to the care of paramedics.

Paramedics said the people – a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s – were taken to a local hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

According to the Toronto Fire Department, the fire has now been extinguished.

There is currently no information available about a possible cause.
