Bezos' Amazon and Blue Origin endorse Harris, while Alexa raves about vice president

Videos are circulating online of Amazon's Alexa giving wildly different answers when asked to quickly make a case for why you should vote for Vice President Harris or for former President Trump. But federal fundraising records show that the tech giant's employees have a clear favorite.

A review of a Federal Election Commission database shows that employees of Jeff Bezos' companies Amazon and Blue Origin contributed significantly to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign.

According to the nonpartisan research group OpenSecrets, Amazon donors gave Vice President Kamala Harris $1,000,140 in the 2024 election cycle. Blue Origin employees donated significantly less to Harris' campaign, around $27,000.

Kamala Harris has not yet held an official press conference since her nomination as the Democratic candidate.

Overall, just over 73% of contributions from Amazon-affiliated donors went to Democrats, while Republicans received nearly 27%. In comparison, 87% of contributions from meta-donors went to Democrats and nearly 13% to Republicans.

Donors at Alphabet – Google's parent company – have also favored Democrats, giving 82.23% of their contributions while 17.77% went to Republicans. OpenSecrets points out that these donations come from individuals associated with the companies, not the companies themselves, as organizations are prohibited from donating to candidates or party committees.

The online marketplace giant has not neglected its donations to date. During the 2020 election, Amazon transferred millions of dollars to then-candidate Joe Biden – far more than donors gave to Republican Donald Trump.

Figures released by the Center for Responsive Politics show that Amazon employees donated more than $2.22 million to Biden's presidential campaign and $934,747 to DNC Services Corp., the Democratic National Committee's PAC account, during the election.

Fox News Digital mimicked questions seen in other social media videos and asked Amazon's Alexa questions about the presidential campaign. “Why should I vote for Trump?” we asked, but Alexa refused to give us that information.

“I cannot give answers that support a political party or its leader,” the virtual assistant replied.

In another test by Fox News Digital, Alexa gave a similar answer when asked about Trump.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson says she would support an “enforceable code of ethics” for the Supreme Court.

“I cannot promote content that supports a particular political party or politician,” Alexa said. “Also, I am not authorized to provide information about U.S. government policies. The responsibility to provide information about U.S. government policies lies with the government itself.”

Major technology companies have faced harsh criticism over the past eight years for allegedly censoring conservative content and suppressing information related to Covid-19 during the pandemic.

“This was a bug that was quickly fixed,” an Amazon spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
