Man in custody and two others arrested for stabbing in Monk Bretton

Detectives have arrested two more people in connection with the death of Alan Sutton in Monk Bretton on Sunday, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.

A 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of affray, a 36-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of affray and perverting the course of justice. Both are currently still in police custody.

A 19-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder. A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of a weapon and assault, and a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault. They were all released on bail pending further enquiries.

On Sunday, police were called at 4.23pm to a fight between a group of men on Burton Road. 41-year-old Alan Sutton was found with suspected stab wounds and sadly died at the scene.

Callum Strachan, 21, of Burton Road, Barnsley, has been charged with murder. He appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' Court today where he will be remanded in custody until his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.
