Shearer, the Premier League's all-time top scorer with 260 goals, predicted that Haaland would surpass his record if the Norwegian striker decides to play another five or six seasons in England.

Premier League legend Alan Shearer had high praise for Erling Haaland after the Manchester City striker scored his second hat-trick of the season against West Ham United. Reflecting on his goalscoring streak, Shearer described Haaland as the “best striker in the world”. Shearer remains the Premier League's all-time top scorer with 260 goals. Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Haaland has already scored 70 goals in 69 league games. According to the Mirror, Shearer said of the Manchester City goalscorer: “Erling Haaland is the best striker in the world right now. In terms of goals, he also plays in the toughest league in the world.”

Shearer praised Haaland and pointed out the Norwegian's goal threat. “I know he has great players around him, but he still has to take his chances. The way he is and makes it look so easy, which of course it isn't, there is no one at the moment who can put the ball in the net better than him,” said Shearer.

Previously, England captain Harry Kane looked set to surpass Alan Shearer in the goalscoring charts. The former Tottenham Hotspur star scored a total of 213 Premier League goals before joining Bayern Munich. Shearer believes Kane could break his long-standing record if he considers returning to English club football.

“I think if Harry Kane returns to the Premier League in a few years, he might have a chance to break my record. But there is no doubt that Erling Haaland will definitely break it if he stays here for the next five or six years, the way he is doing. But we will have to wait and see,” Alan Shearer said, according to the Mirror.

Haaland will be back in action for Manchester City when the Pep Guardiola-coached side host Brentford in a Premier League match on September 14. The reigning champions sit top of the Premier League table, having won three games so far this season.
