Man murdered his rival with a 30cm knife after he ‘lost control’

Majid then followed his rival to the courtyard.

A man who “lost control” has admitted to brutally stabbing his rival to death at a gas station with a 30-centimeter-long zombie knife.

Haseeb Majid stabbed Mohammed Duraab Khan on the forecourt of a Texaco petrol station in Meadow Lane, Nottingham, on January 31, 2024.

Nottingham Crown Court heard Majid feared “violence” from Mr Khan because the victim had previously “threatened” him on the phone.

A few weeks before the stabbing, Mr Khan also damaged his car.

This came after Majid's ex-girlfriend began a relationship with Mr Khan in September 2023, leading to “bad blood” between the two men.

On the evening of January 31, Majid was driving along Meadow Lane when he saw Mr Khan sitting in the passenger seat of an Audi which then turned into the petrol station.

Majid then followed his rival to the courtyard.

He approached the Audi wearing a balaclava and probably hid a 30 centimetre long blade inside.

Majid claimed he only wanted to “scare” Mr Khan with the knife, but he “lost control” after the victim hit him on the wrist with a steering wheel lock.

After stabbing his rival four times, Majid used the knife twelve more times.

Mr Khan suffered stab wounds to his left arm, left leg, torso and back, as well as injuries to his internal organs.

Paramedics arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Mr Khan was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

In his prepared statement, Majid said that if Mr Khan had not “picked him up” at the gas station, he would have “only scared him”.

When Majid was arrested, the police could not find either the weapon or the balaclava.

In cross-examination, prosecutor Michael Burrows told Majid:

“They showed no remorse for killing him. No remorse.”

The defendant replied: “You did not ask me that. I am ashamed when I look behind me and see (Mr Khan's) family and friends.”

“There is a mother who lost her son, someone who lost his brother and his nephew.

“If you want to talk about regret, I will talk about regret. It's not something I'm proud of, I'm ashamed of.

“I've experienced this every day for the last six months in a prison cell and I'll probably spend the rest of my life in a prison cell because of it.”

The 22-year-old denied the murder charge but was convicted. He was found not guilty of possession of a bladed weapon.

Judge Steven Coupland told Majid, who faces life imprisonment:

“You have been arrested on the first charge and I will sentence you at a later date. You will be remanded in custody.”
